5 Points to Debunk Prosperity Gospel and Law of Attraction

Prosperity Gospel and Law of Attraction have infiltrated to some Church's teachings and led believers to falsehood.

Prosperity Gospel: God wants the best for me. And so, He will give me the best according to the standards of this world (pleasure, long life, wealth, high social status, good fortune, etc.)

Law of Attraction: If I pray to God and change my mindset from negative to positive, He will make my problems go away.

How can we counter these lies?

Here are 5 points to debunk them.

1. They serve injustice to early Christians and to all persecuted believers which suggest that they lack in faith which is the cause of their hardships and suffering.

2. Our peace, joy and security should come from God, not from the world. As Christians, we find freedom and fulfillment in submitting our will and life to God, not on excellent health, wealth or good fortune.

3. We are not promised a comfortable life here. Instead, we are to carry our own cross. We have to stand up for Christ even if it means severed relationships and persecution. We are to follow Him even if we have to deny ourselves.

4. God’s thoughts are higher than ours. In our human minds, suffering is bad. But, God can use it to discipline us and form our character. It is also an opportunity for us to honor God when we suffer for righteousness.

5. [Specific] The Law of Attraction can lead down a slippery slope to wishful thinking. Reality won’t change if we just change from negative to positive thinking. We’re not entitled to good outcomes just because we changed our mindset.
